The character % may be used as a wildcard to represent any string of characters.Thus in a town search %Hutton will find Hutton and Old Hutton whereas Marston% will find Marston and Marston Moretaine.

Similarly, in a builder search, %Walker will find J W Walker, T Walker and just Walker whereas %Walker% will find all these plus those which have & Sons appended.
