BIOS REPORTER - Contact and Technical Information

COMMENTS and ENQUIRIES

Constructive comments on the Website edition of the Reporter are always welcome. This website has been checked for link failures and syntax errors - if despite this you notice any, please inform me.

BIOS members should direct any queries direct to the authors of articles, using the BIOS Membership List for forwarding details. If this fails, I will try to direct your queries to the correct source; however, the Data Protection Act may prevent the BIOS Membership List from being used for this purpose. My e-mail contact address has been withdrawn from this site, following the abuse of this information, and the receipt of vast amounts of unwanted e-mail. I can be contacted by ordinary mail at Glandy, Dinas Cross, Newport, Pembrokeshire, UK, SA42 0XP

ARCHIVING PAST EDITIONS

Work on this is proceeding; the acquisition of some sophisticated OCR software has now made archiving early editions of the Reporter possible.

The index continues to grow; the intention is that becomes an useful research tool.

OPERATING SYSTEM:

RISC OS 4.3

This is a British operating system, using ARM processors. it is immune from virus attacks, being ROM based. The operating system is chosen for its rugged simplicity, ease of use, and, above all, stability. (It is also the operating system of choice of the broadcasting authorities, where reliability and quality on-screen text rendering is required).

COMPUTER:

RISCStation 7500+, ARM 7500FE Processor

The original of the Bios Reporter is prepared using !Impression Publisher, !Imagemaster, !Sibelius, !Drawplus, !Spriteclean, !Paint, and !Messenger; the result is printed to file using a Postscript printer program and sent as a PDF file to the printers.

HTML IMPLEMENTATION: 3.2

Frames: minimum use

Javascript: not used

sound: none used

cookies: not used

This simple approach has been adopted to ensure the widest possible availability on the various platforms and browsers. If difficulty is experienced, please contact me.

Please note that the implementation of HTML 3.2 is not followed exactly on other operating systems, for reasons best known to them. Accordingly, certain characters found in Welsh, French and German may not always be rendered correctly, although the correct codes are used in the HTML document. In particular, information including figures and top-bit set characters frequently comes to grief via e-mail and other systems where the implementation of Ascii is curious, to say the least.

VIEWING FONT:

The text has been prepared in RISC OS Trinity 12pt (= Times Roman 12pt), and should be viewed preferably in that font. Heading sizes are 24pt, 18pt, 16pt (h1, h2, h3,).

Most pictures have been compressed for internet use. Please note they remain the copyright of the owners, and may not be reproduced without permission.
